Are you looking to create a really pretty cake, covered in roses. This rose texture is so easy to create and would look amazing on cakes for so many different occasions, from birthday cakes and baby shower cakes to wedding cakes. Whether you’re creating a single tier cake or using it as part of a multi tiered cake.

In this weeks tutorial I’m showing you how easy it is to use a mould to create all the roses, and how to add them onto your cake.

The Rose Mould

The roses for this cake are so easy to create using a silicone rose mould. They do still take a little bit of time to create. I was probably making these roses for around and hour and a half, but the great thing about using the mould is you can make them in advance. You can then have them all ready for when you need to add them onto your cake. Just make sure you store them in a cool dry place, so they don’t get sticky.

This rose mould was one I found on Amazon and I’ll put a link here for you! It was great as it had so many different sized flowers, each one a little different.

When using a silicone mould you want to make sure you dust the shapes with corn flour first. This will stop the fondant from sticking. If you do have any areas where the fondant has stuck, you’ll want to give your mould a wash and make sure it’s completely dry. When fondant has stuck to a mould it will always stick to the exact same spot unless cleaned off.

You’ll see in the tutorial once I’ve pushed the fondant into the shapes I can turn it over and release the shapes. If you ever have problems releasing your shapes, you can pop your mould into the freezer for a few minutes to firm up the fondant. My biggest tip if you are going to do this is pop the mould into a sandwich bag first. This stops moisture from the freezer getting into the fondant, and it becoming sticky when you bring it out to room temperature.

Adding roses onto the side of your cake

This was such a fun cake to create and I really love the effect. It reminds me of a pretty flower wall you see at parties or weddings. For this cake I used a range of different pinks, but you could also make them the same colour or try an ombre effect too.

I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and will be able to use the technique on some of your own cakes.
